Document Summary
The mode in which a story is delivered contributes to the atmosphere of the story and can indirectly develop themes, imagery, and setting. In film, accents and cadence are equivalent to diction and syntax in text. Michael tolan and gerrard ganette believe the narrator is the most important character in the story, even in third person narrations. The medium of the story shapes the reception and impression by and upon the reader. Writers assume a particular voice in every book in acknowledgement of this fact, and do not necessarily use their genuine one. First person is narrated by an entity living within the world: third person is narrated by an omniscient third party. Second person is narrated by somebody addressing you. In the stan lee excerpt, he develops a sardonic, cheesy voice that oscillates between a low and high brand of diction.
