Dickens was the most popular writer and entertainer: toured u. s and england, people anxiously awaited next dickens installment. Most novels published in monthly installments numbers : entire was published over a year and and half, read like we would watch tv episodes. Cost of a novel: very costly, almost 3 weeks pay , installments cost less (spread out, included more than one serial novel plus essays. Cliffhanger ending at the end of each number. Character tics to help readers keep track of the characters over the course of time: character: jagger, always needing to wash his hands, decaying wedding dress.
