ERS317 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Flue Gas, Eidgenoessische Konstruktionswerkstaette, Bottom Ash
Document Summary
Efw (energy from waste) is not considered as part of diversion in ontario. The stacks are often decorated or even utilized in di erent ways. In ontario, incinerators are a rare method of disposal. A hamilton incinerator was the biggest source of dioxins and furans in the country, and had to be deconstructed. Western europe - more incinerators than in east. Japan is in a lot of sense similar to western europe. They also don;t have much land, rely on efw. T in incinerators are often higher than 1000 dc. residence period - time of burning. The expensive part however is polution control equipment. Gas needs to cool down, generating energy in process. It also needs to be cleaned of the ying ne ash. Bottom ash is generally taken to land ll and is not very hazardous so goes into municipal land ll. The gas travels through activated carbon (catches particles and hg), scrubbers, and so on.
