Death is a constant in life, but the amount of grief has shifted over history. After death what we are left with is memory. Present day = memory associated with death is grief and loss. Memento mori - latin term (memory of the dead) reminder of mortality and that were all going to die. The moment of death is unstable (the spiritual sense of the here and the after) The physical body dies and begins deteriorating (physical vs social body) If someone dies it disrupts the social order. Cemetery - collection of individuals - mindset of remembering the person. Relates to site and space - sense of being in a space, hierarchy and environment. Liminal space - all of your senses are occupied in a physical boundary and then you come out (ie leaving a movie theatre after becoming engrossed in the plot) The trinity painting of jesus (maria novella orence masaccio)
