Hip hop was a late twentieth century creation that created a subculture. Hip hop subgenre rap is the music that came from it. Hip hop (noun): an urban youth culture, created in new york city, centered around rap music and other forms of cultural expression (e. g. , graffiti art, fashion, literature, dancing, etc. ) Rap music (noun): the musical expression of hip-hop culture, usually consisting of rhythmic (often rhyming) spoken word accompanied by music. African american expression and times of protest. Amiri baraka & the black arts movement (1965-1975) The last poets (founded in 1968 in harlem, new york) a group that fused spoken word poetry with music. Civil rights movement got rid of the worst forms of legal segregation. Black pride and black power movements were a response to the gaps left by the civil rights movement and the issues it did not address. Musical youth in chicago, tennessee & the bronx.
