Successful in making farming tools: because of a few key things they did, both companies began by specializing in the harvesting tools, both massey and harris were wise in targeting their markets, they noticed that farmers were not willing to pay to much for their tools, they were reluctant to buy it unless they were convinced that they and machinery absolutely needed it, they target the harvesting tools because harvesting is a labour extensive in small period of time. If you didn"t have enough people you would than need the help of the machinery: when they were separate companies they both made good quality, two competitive marketing strategies, get salesmen to go to farming communities and farmers to market their machines machines, they would advertise their products using famous people, they were supported by tariffs, they are also internationally competitive, even when tariffs is reduced they maintain they"re position.
