When programming and computer science as a discipline were being developed, there were many questions around it. A review of social shaping with users in mind. How can users cause technology to change. How can we look at history from the perspective of someone form that time period. Identify a historical problem look for an explosion of change. Start from a place of change, where lots of people got into debates about best way of doing things, what standards are needed. In a time where there is no con ict and disagreement, there is not much social shaping. Identify individuals/groups with an interest in the problem. Allows us to look at history through di erent groups who may not have so much of a gurehead but had an interest in the problem. We should look beyond our rst guesses of who was involved.
