Artisinal production pre-industrial: artisinal production- manufacturing, artisans were defined by their occupation (i. e. smiths, coopers, etc. , urban & sometimes concentrated in neighborhoods, community stuff (?) Training: apprenticeship program period of training: 1-12 years, depending on trade. Guilds: organized by profession & city ensure competence of practitioners by regulation of training. Purpose: govern practice of craft, run by masters of craft, require construction of masterpiece to become master, regulated trade within craft. Protect from competition: ensure fair competition, ensure quality artisans" social welfare network & social life not everyone became a master, reserve fund for people in the trade. Rural textile manufacturing (putting out system: cloth & such made a lot in the country, textile industry dominated by cottage industry. Supplementary income commissioned by merchants: because materials are expensive, good for merchants, because peasants buy raw materials (no risk) Observations about wtwe (?) of work: work was wwud (?) in small space.
