Occupational biomechanics a science concerned with the mechanical behaviour of the musculoskeletal system and component tissues when physical work is performed. Originally developed by sewing machine manufacturers such as remington as typewriters (note foot pedal in early models as enter key) Problem: people became to good and quick with typing, so more than 1 key would often get hit at same time, leading to printing of 2+ letters on top of each other. Solutions: qwerty keyboard format to reduce paper jams, spreading out of vowels to reduce errors (put them on ends because you tend to alternate between consonants and vowels), fingers on home row with index finger on. Inspiration: why is bulk of work being done with left hand (most common words) on qwerty board, when most people are right-handed? . Qwerty keyboard was just designed to prevent jamming, not for humans - Never caught on though because everyone learns qwerty at young age, develop muscle memory.
