Week 6 how does ethnicity shape the aging process: overall, there is a lack of theory studying ethnic diversity in seniors. Influence of race, ethnicity, national origin, and culture on individual and population aging. It is not the physical differences themselves: e. g. , white people were not always 1 homogeneous group, anglo-saxons, italians, jews, europeans, etc. Ethnicity: result of a dialectical process that emerges from the interactions between individuals and those who they meet as they pass through life, defined by others in addition to person him/herself. I can arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time. I can be pretty sure that wherever i move my neighbours will be neutral or pleasant to me. I can take a job with an affirmative action employer without having co-workers suspect that i got it because of my race. I can turn on the tv and see people of my race widely represented.
