In other words, judging the goodness of states of affairs only by utility information. This approach refers to when one or more persons do not attain a level of economic well-being deemed to constitute a reasonable minimum by the standards of that society. This can either refer to economic welfare or social welfare. The perspective of capabilities provides a fuller recognition of the variety of ways in which lives can be enriched or impoverished.
