Intst 101 week 9: hot peace, cold war. Stalin, truman announced his intention to drop the atomic bomb on japan even though germany had already pulled out. We have to keep soviets/communists contained, prevent them from spreading arounf the world. June 1947, usa announces the marshall plan: a lot of capital to help rebuild europe after ww2, europe must be rebuilt quickly to stand up against europe, usa offered marshall plan aid to all of. Usa would occupy western germany, british northwestern, french had where they bordered with germany, and su had eastern germany. Division of berlin as well: su thought the occupation zones would be temporary, su tried to make life uncomfortable for us, fr, and uk, stopped allowing convoys to force the reunification of berlin under soviet terms. West berliners tried to ignore it: eb had a planned economy, a store which was sectioned according to what stuff was made out of (i. e. rubber section, tin section etc. )
