KIN428 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Humerus Fracture, Avulsion Fracture, Upper Extremity Of Humerus
Document Summary
2015-11-16 (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Increases with age (9% chance of a 65 year old with humeral fracture by 90) Prox humerus are 45% of humeral fractures (age>40 = 76%) Fall onto an outstretched hand (foosh) no high impact needed. For younger usually more traumatic, maybe overlooked due to other serious injuries. Does not enable you to classify multiple fractures. Know difference between surgical neck and anatomical neck. Surgical neck = best, more muscle attachments (more distal) Can be divided into four fragments, based mostly on anatomy: a. Classification: (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Neer classification most common displaced or non-displaced. No segment displaced more than 1 cm, or angulated more than 45 . Fragment displacement of more than 1cm, of angulations over 45 . Any of three facets/entire tuberosity retracted >1cm, or angulated. Blood supply to humeral head at some risk: lesser tuberosity displacement.
