Provides insight into the cultural and economic situations that produce crime and understandings of crime. Also shape the kinds of crimes that occur. For bourdieu, the world is divided into a bunch of different fields (artistic field, economic field, political field, legal field ext) All of these different fields make up our social sphere. Sports metaphor - each team wants their field to win. Exert their control by using their power. Problem with fields - fields are tilted and not fair. Fields are tilted in the favour of the powerful. The powerful are able to more easily achieve their objectives. Habitus - your ability to display competence in the field. Habitus is a skill, and practice makes perfect. The longer you have been exposed to the field the better you will be at it. This is an explanation of why people go into the family business . Your entry into the field starts in childhood.
