Branches of government create and impact the legal environment of business. Sources of law: need to understand where legal environment "comes from, from the perspective of the manager/owner: Failure to understand their applicable regulatory environment can have significant negative consequences. Possible interest in monitoring changes to the legal environment and engage in lobbying where relevant. Either directly or indirectly through a business/professional association. Creating law in canada: three primary branches of govn"t. Judicial: each plays a role in creating the legal environment of businesses; interacts with eachother too, three branches of govn"t are diff from the three levels of govn"t. Both levels responsible for creating legislation (statute: how legislation is passed (enacted) May be very important in terms of creating "law" that directly impacts businesses. Municipal govn"ts receive power from their provincial govn"t. Can only act in matters where the constitution gives the provinces the authority: importance of govn"t jurisdiction.
