1945-end of big band era, big bands (12-16 people) had dominated the music industry since the mid 1930"s this was a period in which instrumentals were just as important as vocals in music. Big band music was often dominated by brass instruments sounds (ex. Sentimental journey featuring dorris day) it had very smooth sounds, and was supposed to carry a lot of urban sophistication. Has solid sense of rhythm because big band music was intended for dancing. Band leaders were the stars of this era (ie. benny goodman, count bassie, Products of the music industry included sheet music and recordings. Sheet music dominated recordings until the late 1920"s. By the end of wwii the recording industry had taken over the music industry. Most of our popular music is based on vocals with some sort of backing music, emphasis always on a vocalist of some kind.
