PACS202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Pickup Truck
Document Summary
In this module, we will look at the civil court adjudication system. We will distinguish it from the other approaches to conflict resolution, describe the main characteristics of the system, and then look at one specific set of conflicts. We will then look at how the system addresses these conflicts as an example of some of the key aspects of the court system. As we look at our map of conflict resolution, note that we are now looking at the far right side of the map - court adjudication - which is the last road back to our peaceful civil society. We will return to the significance of the last road back later. In the grid that we have been using to distinguish different methodologies, note that we are dealing with civil not criminal disputes where a third party decides and the process is public. There are two other adjudication processes: arbitration and criminal court adjudication.
