Document Summary

The most important urban area components are the center, downtown, and urban core. There has been a decline in the inner city (poverty concentrated, near downtown). There are also suburbs and inner suburbs (experienced depopulation, economic decline). Boombergs are another element; they have economic growth and population increase usually. The first suburbs had 20% of the us population, and they are distinct form the other parts of metropolitan us. Most inner ring suburbs were built in the first two decades after the post war period, and are now declining in population. American downtowns were developed during the expansion that happened after ww2, and they are positioned outside but close to the metropolitan core. In the us, most people live in suburbs (inner, outer, exurb) while city populations are declining since 1960s. The 1950s has small populations in suburbs in comparison to primary suburbs, and in the 2000s there is suburb population growth, and the primary suburbs are stable (slight decrease).
