Framing the land use plan: a systems approach. Need to have a better sense of landscape form and function in order to determine the best form and function that is appropriate for the landscape. Helping to understand how natural landscapes function. How does landscape change, resource extraction, natural disturbance alter the rate and magnitudes of these processes: think of the design storm, discharge in the river system with comparison of the pre-urban and post-urban hydrograph. Understand the impacts of the new urban hydrograph from flooding to habitat loss: wildfires cause mass disturbance but human disturbances are much worse, focus mainly on urban systems. What are environmental impacts of landscape change. Answers on exam should be done in this context, answering the 5 above questions: see the urban/post urban hydrograph idea. Environmental science told us we had problems back in 1990s it gained prominence but was in 1960 with ian mcharg.
