Diversity makes a firm more competitive/productive and successful. Certain mistakes are in general correlated amongst people who share same ethnic background. E. g unwillingness to take risks: african-americans, impatience: whites. Mistakes are made exponentially when dealing with one ethnic group. About what kind of species are likely to win in natural selection: government policies regarding ethnic minorities may follow two different principles: melting pot and salad bowl . Melting pot policy: in between national identity and minority identity, minorities have to give their identity up for the national one. Salad bowl: national identity will keep expanding to accommodate and incorporate the different identities. Salad bowl because the original ingredients are intact =multi- culturalism: tax collection is often easier when tax payers share a common ethnic identity. You need the cooperation of many, it is a kind of collective action. Tasks that require such action the influence of ethnic identity becomes useful.
