Today the us order is being challenged by almost equal competitor china and also. Population and economic potential that give them the opportunity to participate in world power: historically they were: Enormous population and resources a billion and a half people. Doesn"t want to directly challenge the us militarily. Interdependent on american in the rise of the chinese middle class. Gap between china and us is closing in their historical gross domestic product. Same thing us did with the eu after the second world war. Military spending compared to us is still lower but china is rising in military expenditures. Senkaku/diaoyu islands dispute japan and china lay claim to these island that are uninhabited and uninhabitable. China has had control over the island forever. If one power lays claim to the island they also get a certain amount of km around the island (control of waters and skys) If china can lay claim to the islands, their jurisdiction increases.
