The courts matter in this election cause theres an open seat. The court can help to decide the election. Court allows straight ticket voting in michigan (voting for one party for all positions) Bad for republicans - trump is controversial and therefore if they vote against trump they vote against the entire party (down ballot) Will the court become a majority or a minority by party. Division of powers - federal and state levels. Cases for bill of rights and constitutional limits on these. The bill of rights does not govern the rights between private individuals, but only protects the rights of the citizens when the government infringes on them. Cant physically make them do it, but you should do it cause its unconstitutional and morally wrong. Control over docket (they don"t control their docket because a case has to come to them, but they get to chose the cases that do come to them)
