Document Summary
When psychologists begin research, they are seeking to answer a question or to test a theory-> (cid:373)ust suppo(cid:396)t (cid:448)ia(cid:271)ilit(cid:455) of (cid:862)le(cid:374)s(cid:863) We conduct theory to test theory, then interpret results through (multiple) theories. Three principles of scientific endeavour: objectivity. Biases i(cid:373)pa(cid:272)t the kind of research we do, and how we do it. The bias informs the kind of research one does, but does not lead someone to mislead or misrepresent the research research is peer reviewed extremely closely and respond back with suggestions. This process helps keeps researchers honest/ethical: systematic observation. One must follow steps and rules: you must have a plan to gather data, test research question, etc: replicability. Extremely important for findings to be replicable in order to ensure that the same results will be found. Helps develops a body of knowledge in an area-> results are reliable/trustworthy. Datum is singular: statistics are used to analyze quantitative research.
