Psych 101 research methods in behavioural science monday jan 30th. Abstract: summary of hypotheses, methods, and results. Outlines research question; reviews past research and theory; introduces formal hypotheses. Methods: describes the participants, procedure and materials used. Results: describes what was found; tables & graphs; statistics. Compare with past research and suggest practical applications. Each discipline has their own sets of journals, in which researchers conduct their research and others can read them and learn from them. Intro: outline the research question (what the researcher knows so far) & introduces the formal hypotheses. Journal articles get reviewed and either accepted, accepted but after certain questions are answered, rejected. This does not happen with books, anyone can publish a book. Methods & results is so important: to understand. Operational definition: construct defined in terms of how it is to be measured. Number of times a child hits a bobo doll. Constructs & operational- important in social sciences.
