Document Summary
Senses information, translates information into neural impulses and transfers to the brain for complex, perceptual processing: needs specialized structures that allows us to regulate how much light comes in. Helps interpret types of colors: amplitude makes colors dim or bright colors. Sclera: is the white, outer surface of the eye. Cornea: is the clear layer that covers the front portion of the eye and also contributes to the eyes" ability to focus: light enters eye through cornea and passes through opening called the pupil. Iris: a round muscle that adjusts the size of the pupil; also gives eye its characteristic color. These receptors are where light will be transformed into neural signal that the brain can understand. Receptors back at eye to be protected and get consistent blood supply. Information from photoreceptors at the back of the retina is transmitted into the ganglion cells closer to the front of the eye.
