The brain & the nervous system: research methods and the multiple ways data may be gathered. Interview: survey, naturalistic observation, experimentation, meta analysis, case study, terms, variables: things" that change. Studying changes in repeated observations: experimental design, key features of an experimental design, random assignment to groups, minimum of two groups - experimental and control groups; participants are assigned to random groups. Independent and dependent variable(s: manipulation- to change the independent variable. Social desirability- wanting to look good to the researcher: placebo-when a participant"s expectation the study, impact their experience. Belief and expectation that something will work, will make you believe it is happening: experimenter bias- experimenter"s expectation of the study influence the results. Picking out what is favourable: ethics in research, rules concerning proper and acceptable conduct that investigators use to guide their research. Informed consent: confidentiality, debriefing, deception in research, research in animals. Identical twins share same environment for 9 months.
