Document Summary
By seven children were working, and by eleven they were immersed into industrial jobs: children were employed for their small size (ex. climb under machines, plant dynamites, small fingers), but that was the norm. They worked 12 hours a day, so it was a pretty crappy childhood. Means that children are not the same as adults. They must be treated differently because of their age and size, and their undeveloped brain: affective development: attachment theory, love between a mother and an infant, sigmund freud child is driven by sexual instincts . Mother"s milk (nipple) is therefore a by-product of sex. Love is established by sexual gratification: harry harlow (behaviourists) did animal experiments in 1958. Mother and child chimpanzees would lose their maternal instinct (mom would neglect/kill the child). So researchers would remove the infants and place them in cages and make them wear diapers, bottle-feeding them. But whenever their diapers were taken off, they would cry.
