Document Summary

Sum of ipsp and epsp passes threshold then there is an electrical impulse (action potential) that propagates down the axon. Insulated and sped up by the myelin sheaths. Part of the cause is deficiency of dopamine. Marked by an excess of dopamine in various parts of the brain. A deficiency of serotonin is a cause for insomnia. The neurons that work through acetylcholine get ruined with alzheimer"s. When injured, the body naturally releases these endorphines which allow you to handle a lot more pain. Neurotransmitters fit onto a receptor side of receiving neuron. Agonist drugs: mimics neurotransmitter making the cell believe it and change. By acting just like the neurotransmitter, and in effect making it think that there is more of it; good if there is a deficiency. Antagonist drugs: blocks neurotransmitters from affecting the cell. Others act like blockers and keep the neurotransmitter from having as much of an effect; good if there is too much of a neurotransmitter.
