Figure and ground in perception (old lady vs. young lady image) Ground is what is behind that is not being perceived at the moment. Gure / ground perceptions show us that we are taking the stimuli and adding our preconceptions and understandings to it, in uencing what we see. Proximity: group things that are close together as being part of the same group. Similarity: tend to group similar things together. Connectedness: group together things that are connected together. Closure: supply meaning which is not physically there at all (*seeing triangle) Good form: tend to see things as a whole, even when its not there. Perceptual set (expectations in uence what you actually perceive)
