Document Summary
Quantitative and qualitative differences: stream of consciousness has depth (different quantities, essence of consciousness can change (different qualities) Ex. dreams, drugs can change the essence of our consciousness. 3 main rhythms: circadian rhythm - every 24 hours (adaptations of organisms responding to changes in environment associated with earth"s rotation) 2: ultradian rhythm - > once per day (recurrent period or cycle repeated; ex. Focus you need to take breaks in between studying) Don"t grow during day because we focus all our energy on living. However, when we sleep, we are now able to divert and fix the focus of this energy. Entrainment - internal events synchronized with external events (temperature & daylight): melatonin (involved in sleep) activity responds to illumination, resets the clock. Sequestered with no time cues: 24. 2 hour day. Impose artificial 28 hour day: lights on for 20 hours, off for 8, sleep-wake cycle still followed this, however, hormone cycle and body temperature continued around 24- hour clock.
