Natural observation watch what children are doing in natural settings. Structural observation lab setting observation (conditions and manipulations) you can compare between conditions. Self- report include: surveys, questionnaires which are used to study parents. Case- study is an in depth study of 1 child , looks into particular variables for study. Structural observation looking time monitor how long children look at a particular stimulus. pointing look at where they point (hidden objects) Has used for infants, they put a soother in mouth and measure how hard baby sucks on soother. Within treatment 1 group exposed to all conditions of study. Between treatment 2 groups exposed to different treatments and the groups are compared. Longitudinal study follows a group of children and infants throughout time to study one particular thing. Cross-sectional study sample from a specific age-group for a study (e. g. reading speed measured in kids age 7) Microgenetic studies: little intervention, shift children"s perspective earlier in age.
