Billions of neurons by the time you are born. Watch the video for an explanation on the neuron. Myelin is made by the glial cells. Most of the neurons are in place already: synapse or connections increase. Synaptic pruning: returns neurons not needed uncommitted state: continues into adolescence, use it or lose it, starts during infancy and toddlerhood. Neurons forming grey matter and myelin forming white matter. Glial cells: myelination: coating of the neural fibres with a fatty sheath. Why is myelin good: causes the action potential to go faster, less of an electrical signal.
