Pretend play, perspective taking, & theory of mind. Preoperational stage (age 2-7: pre-logical, increase in representation/symbolic activity. Before age 2 (~15 months): imitate acts: objects are what they are. After age 3: imaginary object, pretend properties/sociodramatic play. Realize that there is another world, and understand rules that are not yet given to them: symbol-real-world relations and a symbol on what is being shown, dual representation: viewing a symbolic object as both an object itself. Don"t understand this until age 4, sometimes age 3 depending: can recognize themselves through pictures, they don"t understand, cannot understand things that are 3d, they have a scale problem, things that have no grasping option. View little things as big things: maps are hard as they represent 2 things, appearance-reality task: Shows an object but is actually something else (cid:498)what does it look like? (cid:499) (cid:498)what is it really? (cid:499: egocentrism, perspective taking. Often use ambiguous aspects, as you have experienced it too.
