Animals - we think some hidden essence inside something makes it what it is defines what it is time. Children understand artifacts have functions and exist for a purpose, but 4-10 year olds may think natural kinds do also (ex. looking at a platypus also) Artifacts (something human made) we think something innate about function. Purpose/function/teleology (not identical in definition but similar enough) all about describing a thing in terms of what it is and what it"s for. 1 for walking, and being in a zoo (teleological explanation serving a purpose) These aren"t reasons for w(y there are tigers. 1 they were pointy because bits of stuff piled up on top of one another for a long. 2 they were pointy so that animals could scratch on them when they got itchy. Promiscuous teleology viewing all kinds of entities (artifacts and natural objects)
