Emotional and social development in early childhood: self, emotions, morality development page 363 - 371. This chapter is devoted to the many facets of early childhood emotion and social. Erik erikson"s theory = personality change in the preschool years. Consider children"s concepts of themselves, their insights into social and moral worlds, their gender typing, ability to manage emotional and social behaviours. Child rearing / good parenting / abuse and neglect. Guilt = negative outcome of early childhood is an overly strict superego that causes and experiencing supportive child rearing that fosters a secure conscience children to feel too much guilt bc they have been threatened, criticized and punished. Self-concept = set of attributes, abilities, values that an person believes defines them. Preschoolers: observable characteristics like name, age and possessions i"m 4 . 5+: personality traits i"m shy ; agreeableness and positive affect. Warm, sensitive parenting-child relationship = early self-concept associated with them.
