The goals of classroom management: access to learning, more time for learning, management for self-management. Classroom management: techniques used to maintain a healthy learning environment, relatively free of behavioural problems. Participation structures: the formal and informal rules for how to take part in a given activity. Engaged time/time on task: time spent actively engaged in the learning task at hand. Academic learning time: time when students are actually succeeding at the learning task. Self-management: management of your own behaviour and acceptance of responsibility for your own actions; use of behavioural learning principles to change your own behaviour. Interactions between teacher and student (such as how to get the teacher"s attention when help is needed: talk among students (such as giving help or socializing) Rules promote preparation, respect, safety, order, and success. Natural/logical consequences instead of punishing, having students redo, repair, or in some way face the consequences that naturally flow from their actions.
