Document Summary

Psychology and law february 07 jury selection. Anyone who is a citizen and is over the age of eighteen may be eligible to be a jury member. Representative of the population jurors should unbiasly represent the population; having a jury consisting of one demographic group or ideology is disparaging. Impartial jury members need to be able to hand out judgements without bias (or prejudice). Generic prejudice happens when a member from an in-group (i. e. , white collar. Ceo) looks down upon a member from an out-group (i. e. , low-income thief) and makes a decision or judgement based on that individuals social status. This type of prejudice is subtle, underground, and implicit, but still happens. Interest prejudice happens when a member holds an interest in the outcome of a particular case. They may have something to gain from a guilty verdict. Able to understand the proceedings the individual understands the judge(cid:495)s instructions and the arguments posed during trial.
