We are social creatures and need other people to survive. If we were not working as social entities, the legal system would not exist. In order to understand the intersection between the legal system and psychology we need to: Understand how people think, feel and behave. Many disciplines contribute to understanding the legal system and human behaviour. Most systems have adversarial methods to arrive at the truth ex. Laws are designed to ensure prescriptions are followed. Ideographic: operates predominantly on a case by case basis. We have to act as if we know for sure. Operational: deals with what the world gives you. Innovation and certainty new ideas and new methods. Empirical and data driven tries to arrive at the truth. Experimental method to arrive at the truth. Based on probabilistic evidence when there is a case you can"t say with certainty. Psychology says you can operate with probabilistic evidence. Each system has different needs and different goals.
