PSYCH230 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Hindsight Bias, Physical Attractiveness, Rodney King
Document Summary
Criticism: research results are common sense. So obvious, why did you use expert and spending money. Ie police officers should do better according to people, but they actually aren"t a better eye witness than anyone else. Hindsight bias suggested as logical fact that people expect, but only after it is proven: easily to over influential. Jurors tend to think they are a more educated and informed decision-maker. As long as educational and not directive: unrealistic studies. Field studies to make staged crime (but its not a real crime - ethics) Some studies might not have been done properly = prejudice. If there are studies for so many people, so many times; should take note: knowledge is limited and inexact. Not sure if we can all nail it down. Both sides in court can bring experts because experts disagree. Goal of expert testimony = reduce inappropriate decision being made.
