Document Summary
Social psych social psych in the clinic lecture 20. You start with negative experiences then you start to blame yourself and being self-focused blaming yourself will lead you to be in a depressed mood. Being in a depressed mood makes you act in a way where you may get more negative experiences. Iv2: woman would talk to a confederate who either acted very responsive (warm and friendly) or unresponsive (cold and unfriendly, talked less): looked at how depressed participant felt after. Dv: depressed mood and behaviour towards next participant: see if bad feelings leak into other things later on (i. e. one bad conversation can ruin talking to next person) Findings: when a person with a helpless/depressive attribution style talks to an unresponsive confederate, they become more depressed after: people who aren"t depressed don"t take it as personal. Next graph: how they treated the next participant non-verbal friendliness being warm and friendly in a non-verbal way. (smiling, eye contact, looking engaged)
