Basic characteristics of motivation: motivation: the extent to which persistent effort is directed toward a goal. Effort: stre(cid:374)gth of the perso(cid:374)"s (cid:449)ork-related behaviour. It involves different kinds of activities on different kinds of jobs. (a office job responsibility is different from a warehouse worker) both exert effort in a manner appropriate to their jobs. Persistence: individuals exhibit in applying effort to their work tasks. Direction: workers channel persistent effort in a direction that benefits the organization. Correct decisions increase the probability that persistent effort is actually translates into accepted organizational outcome. Thus, motivation means working smart as well as working hard. Goals: all motivated behaviour has some goal or objective. We assume that motivated people act to enhance organizational objectives. Employees goals might include high productivity, good attendance, or creative objectives. The contrary applies (when they adamant in dysfunction aspects-being absent, sabotaging) Intrinsic motivations stem from the direct relationship between the worker and the task and is usually self-applied.
