PSYCH253 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Bulimia Nervosa, Illusory Correlation, Confirmation Bias
Document Summary
The executive rat seems to be buffered from the negative outcomes of the stimuli. Studies on health and control started with animal studies on rats. Two rats connected to a wire that gives an electric shock. One of the rats can turn off the shock but the other rat cannot turn off the shock. Even though the stimuli is the same, their reactions are different. Did a similar study with people and loud noise one person had control over the switch and one person doesn(cid:495)t. Even perceived control makes them feel better (cid:523)give them a switch that doesn(cid:495)t actually. Original model: thought that in some way, this resembles people who are depressed can(cid:495)t to anything about them; people who are depressed give up even when they can do: learned helplessness and depression. Put dogs in a cage and the cage floor could administer electric shock.
