Understand the episode then look at the combination of episodes and look at the diagnostics. a depressive disorders: There are 2 criteria one of which must be present. Thyroid problems either hypo or hyper have symptoms of depression. If they are not bothered by these symptoms or causing impairment, we would not diagnose them. Be diagnosed with this, they should have had no manic or hypomanic episodes. Mdd is also the one that keeps coming back. Snowball effect that happens, the more that somebody had they more they are able to act that way. Ideally, we want to catch the first time because they will reoccur. In order for us to say someone has had 2 distinct episodes, they have to have had a period of wellness, which is usually 60 days.
