Boys and girls do no confide on the same level. Contributes to the environmental development of socialization (can not develop healthily through adolescence without peers) Example: searching for your identity (looking at what your peers are doing) Provides positive self-esteem (adolescents are judging themselves and thinking about themselves, and look to friends for affirmation); however, adolescents are not always truthful. Very difficult to be truthful (however, our closest friends will always be truthful: peer status (within a group) Meaning: what is your status among peers. Popular (someone rarely disliked; often known as the best friend) If something negative is said about them, it is often because they are jealous.
