Strategies males use to increase the probability of paternity. The ones we will discuss have sequential dependencies. Goal: minimize the likelihood of committed partner being inseminated by a rival male: mate guarding; monitoring; sequestering (not letting partner leave to isolate partner from other males) Not failsafe; not practical cant do this all the time: premium on virginity when choosing partner. Assumption: if she hasn"t had sex with other males prior to marriage, she is less likely to have an epc. Female virginity more important in certain cultures. Not necessarily virginity but can also be the correlation with the number of partners a female has. Does the frequency of infidelity correlate w/ # of sex partners? (both males & females) +. 5- +. 6. Cost: less likely to get a partner who enjoys sex: barrier methods. Chastity belt- worn when committed partner is away. Physical devices placed on a female making sex impossible: surgical strategies. Clitorectomy- pre-pubescent females have clitoris surgically removed.
