Discretionary time commitment: discretionary time commitment is an essentially, non-coerced, allocation of a certain amount of time in an activity, opposite is coerced time commitment. What are some benefits of serious leisure: self-enrichment, self-expression, self-actualization, regeneration or renewal of self, feelings of accomplishment, enhancement of self-image, social interaction and sense of belonging, lasting physical product of activity. Immediately and intrinsically rewarding, relatively short-lived and pleasurable; requires little to no training: 8 types: casual volunteering, pleasurable aerobic activity (+ 6 types from module) Project-based leisure: requires considerable planning, effort, and sometimes skill or knowledge, two types: one-shot and occasional.
