It is a radical, authoritarian, nationalist ideology. The nation is an organic community that requires strong and total leadership and needs a singular, collective identity. Advocates a single-party system run by elite military. War plays a role in building and keeping national spirit and vitality. Wants to maintain traditions, limited social change. It is a totalitarian state with a supreme leader. Origin of the state: power, coercion, and social fitness. Italian politician who led the national fascist party. Military service in wwi, came to see socialism as a failure but that war could have benefits. Through a coup, he became prime minister of italy in 1922. Created public works programs, combated economic recessions, governmental control of businesses, wage and price controls, controlled the media and education. Attempting to turn italy into an autarky and a great empire (also using colonialism) By 1940 he led italy into wwii, executed at the end of the war.
