1st- it is the non-specific that is common result of any demand on the body, be the effect, mental or semantic. Mental simply means having to do with the mind and the semantic in having to do with physical responses or body responses, etc. This perspective looks at the result of demands upon the body. Hans selye"s perspecti(cid:448)e would fall into this type of definition. 2nd- a state of stress exists when unusual or excessive demands, threaten a person"s well being or integrity. This perspective looks at what the triggers are that creates stress. Looks at external kinds of triggers, external kinds of demands that we experience and tends to focus more on external factors. Stress is the result or consequence when environmental demands require new types of responses by the individual or organism. Conditions acting on the person (the stressors or the triggers). State of the person, coping resources, ego strengths .
