Conservatism is a political ideology that is against revolution and consists of the
desire to preserve the traditional values of a society. Conservatives are essentially very
stubborn people who resist sudden change and are suspicious of it since they believe that
the social problems that could be found in society right now serves an important purpose
(society as an organism) and therefore should remain in society. However they do see
natural and slow changes as necessary (politics of delay) but sudden changes could result
in undesirable effects, even when the changes were made with the best intentions in

imperfect, corrupt, and selfish. For these reasons, conservatives encourage a small but
strong government that is capable of controlling and restraining the passions of the
citizens. Their methods of restraining the public include the use of institutions such as
religion, education and family, in order to teach children and adults selfrestraint. They
also use these institutions to provide goods and services since they believe that
distributive justice should not be part of the government’s job.
Tories vs Whigs
Tories (conservatives) are a political party in the UK that defends aristocracy,
monarchy, the Church of England, and ascribed status, whereas the Whigs
(liberals) are the political party that focused more on competition and

more influenced by Neoliberalism. They are more economically right
winged and advocates for a small state, privatization, and less income taxes.
