Early biological theories adhere to the principle that the basic determinants of human behaviour, including delinquency, are constitutionally or physiologically based and inherited. Early theories: based on mental and physical make up: some are uncontrollable, internal mechanism directly causes criminalism. Shape of our bodies do change, but there are certain body parts that don"t change (ie - size of head, ears, etc) Cesare lombroso (atavism: primitive urges, criminals are types of throw back from a more primitive state, long arms, large (buck) teeth, croaked nose, body hair, born criminals, after research, 90% 75% think criminals are atavists. > 60% of delinquent boys were mesomorphic compared to 31% of non-delinquents: mesomorphy is highly associated with such characteristics as high levels of inadequacy, of not being. Do delinquents have an identifiable somatotype? taken care of, and of emotional instability (p. 24: insensitivity to others, frustration, few goals, leads to potential of delinquency.
